Main planning services

O’Neill Associates are a team of experienced planners providing specialist advice on a wide range of planning and development issues. We adopt a comprehensive and creative approach to any project, and we aim to contribute to the formulation of proposals, identify key issues and develop a planning strategy based on the ambitions of our client.

Recent projects

Science Museum Group - O'Neill Associates have been awarded a 5-year contract by the Science Museum Group to provide planning consultancy services for the Group’s Vision 2025 Programme, which involves the £55.3m transformation of the National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon, County Durham.

Roman Quarter, York – The Practice led a team of consultants in obtaining planning permission for an 11-storey building on Rougier Street containing 250 apartments and a world-class Roman themed visitor attraction in a double basement. The scheme will also include re-opening of an ancient thoroughfare, Tanner Street.

Gas Works, Heworth Green – O'Neill Associates secured a suite of planning approvals to facilitate the decontamination and redevelopment of the former gas works site on Heworth Green. This included a package of enabling works along with outline planning consent for the construction of 607 homes.

Hotel developments – The Practice secured planning permissions for a series of new hotels including the 143-bed Hampton by Hilton on Piccadilly, 112 bed spaces at Moxy on Peasholme Green, a 64-bed independent hotel on historic Micklegate and a 100-bed extension to The Grand - York’s only 5-star hotel

Cocoa West, York - O’Neill Associates secured outline planning permission to redevelop the former Rowntree’s factory site for up to 425 new homes. This followed an earlier permission to convert old factory buildings to create 279 new flats – a combined 704 new units across the site

*University of York - *O’Neill Associates secured outline planning consent for a major University expansion following a six week public inquiry. We are now involved in obtaining reserved matters approval to facilitate the continuing development, including infrastructure schemes and academic buildings.

*Local Plans *– We have been involved in a number of local plan examinations, most recently for the York Local Plan where we are representing a number of Higher Education clients in addition to housebuilders, commercial developers and charities.
