Combining skills to provide a fully integrated approach to urban design

Matrix Partnership is an internationally recognised specialist in urban design.

The company was formed in 2000 by directors drawing on over 30 years experience in delivering major urban projects worldwide. Our involvement in a range of seminal projects, such as the redevelopment of London Docklands, provides the bedrock of experience for us to act as trusted client advisors on projects delivered from inception through to completion.

We bring together expertise in architecture, landscape design and planning to deliver sustainable design solutions. Our core services cover:

  • Masterplanning for sustainable new settlements and communities
  • Urban planning & regeneration
  • Regional urban development strategies
  • Landscape & architecture design and implementation
  • Training, post-graduate teaching and best practice publications in urban design

We practice with passion and with a commitment to high quality design, delivered through collaborative working, effective management, planning robustness and foresight. We operate as part of multi-disciplinary teams that are customised to meet the needs of a specific project.

The practice has successfully led a variety of large-scale urban projects and we were recipients of the 2006 RTPI ‘Sustainable Communities Award’ and 2007 Regeneration & Renewal Award for ‘Best Use of Planning in Regeneration.’ Notable projects include the masterplanning of Devonport in Plymouth and Woodberry Down in Hackney, London’s largest housing estate renewal project. We are currently working throughout the Middle East, China and Africa as well as the UK.

Linking practice and research helps ensure that we stay at the cutting edge. Projects are informed by training and policy development. We work on various best practice urban design research, training and design guidance exercises for the UK and Scottish Governments. Practice Directors have been frequent lecturers in urban design at Oxford University, Oxford Brookes University and The Bartlett, University College London.
