Andy obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Geography from Coventry University and a diploma in Urban Planning at Oxford Brookes University. He is a Chartered Town Planner and was elected a Member of the RTPI in 1994. Andy has over 20 years professional planning experience, having previously worked in local planning and development control at Test Valley Borough Council. Andy covers a wide range of town and country planning issues with a particular focus on rural issues - particularly country houses, planning design, planning law and appeals. Andy joined the Practice in 1997 and became a Director in 2001. He is also the Company Secretary.
Ian holds a BA degree in Town Planning from South Bank Polytechnic and is a Chartered Town Planner having been elected a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1982. Ian joined the Practice in September 2005 and is a Director. He has over 35 years professional experience in the public sector, principally in development control but also in the preparation of development plans and supplementary planning advice. In his time with District Councils in Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey he was involved with all aspects of the development process including planning appeals, enforcement and as an expert witness in planning inquiries. As a head of service he was also responsible for development teams and major development projects and has been undertaking such work for local authority clients.
Ian undertakes all aspects of development planning for private and public clients including development appraisals, submission of applications, enforcement and appeals.
Ian is a member of the Town and Country Planning Summer School that organises an annual summer school for elected members and planning professionals.
Ian has a Planning Degree from Trent Polytechnic and over 20 years experience in local government. He is a Chartered Town Planner and was elected a Member of the RTPI in 1994. He joined the practice in January 2008 and became a director in June 2010.
He has worked with three City and Borough Planning Authorities in Hampshire including six years as a team leader managing area teams. He was involved with all aspects of the development process including planning appeals, enforcement and as an expert witness in planning inquiries.
Ian undertakes all aspects of development planning for private and public clients including development appraisals, submission of applications, enforcement and appeals.
Ian also has a Diploma in Management Studies and extensive experience in analysing planning systems including database management, GIS and document management.
Alison holds a post-graduate BPhil in Town and Country Planning from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. She has over 32 years of professional experience in the public sector, dealing with regional, strategic and local planning policies and heritage and countryside matters. She managed a planning policy and heritage service for 18 years, including, most recently, 5 years as Head of Service. Alison joined the Practice in September 2007 and works on and assists with an expanding portfolio of LDF work.
Chris was a founding member of the Practice and retired in May 2010. He acts as a Consultant Planner to the Practice. Chris gained an MA degree at Campion Hall, Oxford in English and a Diploma in Town Planning at Oxford Polytechnic. He is a Chartered Town Planner and was elected a Member of the RTPI in 1973 and has over 35 years professional planning experience. Chris has worked for Devon and Hampshire County Councils in development control, planning policy and implementation, before working for Eastleigh Borough Council in local plans and implementation of major development sites. Chris became Head of Policy and then Deputy Borough Planning Officer with responsibility for planning policy, development control and enforcement. Chris has been in private practice since 1987 and appeared as an expert planning witness at appeals and Inquiries. Chris acts on the Practice's behalf as the national planning adviser to the the British Marine Federation (BMF).
Lynne has a Geography degree from Durham University and a Masters Degree in Town and Regional Planning from Sheffield University. She was elected a Member of the RTPI in 1985 and the RICS in 1988. Lynne has more than 20 years of professional experience, mainly in private practice working on a range of major development projects.
She joined the Practice as a Consultant Planner in 2005 and works principally on major projects.
Kim joined the Practice in October 2007 having completed a Masters Degree in Development Planning at The University of Reading. Prior to full-time study as a mature student, Kim gained more than 20 years valuable work and life experience through her previous career in hospital administration and her role as a part-time fire-fighter in her spare time. She uses her previous vocational experience and professional education to inform her role as a Planner in handling her own case work and assisting other members of the Practice.
Kim has an excellent knowledge of rural planning issues.
Alex joined the Practice as an Assistant Planner in September 2007, having attained a BSc (Joint Hons) degree in Geography and Urban Planning from Birmingham University in 2006. She then went to gain planning experience with Lennon Planning in Southampton while studying for a Certificate in Spatial Planning at Oxford Brookes which she passed with distinction. Alex completed an MSc in Spatial Planning in 2010. Her studies and skills are put to good use with her own casework and assisting the rest of the planning team at Southern Planning Practice.
Alex has built up a good understanding of rural planning issues and is now a Planner within the Practice.
Phil has a Leeds University degree in Sociology and a Diploma in Urban Planning from Oxford Polytechnic. He has more than 30 years varied professional experience with local authorities in the North East and Hampshire and in private practice. Phil specialises in policy processes and issues at all levels and his last local authority post was Head of Planning Policy for Southampton City Council. Phil joined the Practice as a Consultant Planner in December 2005.
Steve has a BA Honours degree in Architectural Technology from Southampton Institute that is recognised by the British Institute of Architectural Technologists. He joined the Practice in 2000 and provides our in-house design and plan drawing service, including photographic and artistic visualisations. He also undertakes site and building survey work.
