Ian Cansfield has headed up Cundall’s Planning Consultancy Team since 2007 and currently acts as lead Planning Consultant on a number of projects across the UK. Before joining Cundall, Ian had spent 12 years in both the public and private sector. He moved across from South Tyneside Council, where he managed the production of the Local Development Framework (one of the first to be adopted) along with co-ordinating housing renewal and urban design in his role as Spatial Planning Manager. Prior to that Ian also worked at Castle Morpeth Borough Council, Durham County Council and Sunderland City Council. His main areas of expertise include: Development control - planning applications, Appeals and Public Inquiry work, EIA, Planning policy issues, Regeneration, Housing Renewal, Economic Development, Community empowerment and engagement. Ian was Chair of the RTPI North East Region in 2006.
Juliet Joined Cundall in October 2011 to further develop our presence in London. She has had a number of years experience of working in Planning within London on a variety of Housing and regeneration and retail schemes. Most recently, Juliet has spent 3 years providing Planning Consultancy Services within the Leaside Regeneration Company.
Ruth is an accomplished transport planner having spent over five years working in Development Control in two Local Authorities. She joined Cundall in 2007 and now leads the Cundall Transportation Team. She has developed a broad knowledge base in the field of transport and planning through her experience in working with a diverse range of projects and clients. Ruth advises clients on all transportation-related issues associated with new developments. Her main areas of expertise include: Site Appraisals, Transport Statements / Assessments, Traffic Engineering, Sustainable Transport, Travel Plans, BREEAM Assessments and Parking Strategies.
Graham Garnham joined Cundall in 2006 to supplement the growing planning service provided by the company, alongside the introduction and stimulation of a broad range of work for the Transportation team. Graham came with over 26 years of relevant experience gained in the public sector, culminating in several years as a district council chief planning officer leading a multi-disciplinary department that included planning, regeneration, architecture, design and building control services. He currently works mainly on appeals, planning applications and policy matters related to development in the residential, retail, rural and conservation environments. He is actively involved in the RTPI North East Region as Honorary Treasurer.
Richard joined Cundall in January 2011 to help assist the growing planning department. Richard had spent one year working at Sanderson Weatherall during his work placement year as part of the Newcastle University Town Planning Degree and Diploma course. Richard has gained relevant experience through commercial and educational planning applications and has expertise in compiling feasibility studies and policy reviews.
Sarah Dyer joined Cundall in 2012 as a historic building specialist. Sarah is a qualified Town Planner and historic buildings advisor and came with around 15 years experience working in both the public and private sectors. Previously she was part of the multi-disciplinary project team that delivered HS1 and worked on St Pancras Station. More recently Sarah has been working for various local authorities helping them to deliver their building conservation service. Sarah's experience includes preparation of listed building applications, applications for conservation area consent, preparation of heritage statements, evidence at appeal and advice on design matters in the context of historic buildings. Sarah is currently one of the committee members on the northern branch of the IHBC. (Institute of Historic Building Conservation)
