The practice of Bakewell & Partners has been established in Belper, Derbyshire, for more than fifty years. It has built up particular expertise in small housing developments on difficult sites and in conversion of barns and other redundant agricultural buildings to residential use.
Partner Stephen Heathcote is an experienced planner and urban designer as well as architect. He was formerly Head of Environmental Design at Wokingham District Council in Berkshire, where he was responsible, inter alia, for the Twyford Central Area Urban Design Campaign, a case study in public participation featuring in the DETR guide By Design.
Recent projects include:
Conversion of listed farm buildings in the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District National Park to a range of uses including residential, workshops and community facilities;
Housing schemes in Derbyshire for: Futures Housing Association and private developers;
Grant aided restoration projects funded through the Belper and Milford Townscape Heritage Initiative;
A number of private houses for individual clients;
Dental surgeries in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
