studio | REAL
Roger Evans Associates Ltd (REAL) was set up in 1992 in Oxford to provide high level research, design and consultancy services in the field of urban planning and architecture, and was one of the new generation of practices which concentrated upon urban design as the core practice activity. We became studio | REAL in October 2009.
As architect-planners we work at a wide range of physical scales from city plans and neighbourhoods to streets and buildings. We aim to design places that become successful communities – that’s our focus and our passion. Working collaboratively with public and private sectors and local communities, we seek a creative, inter-disciplinary and long-term approach to development. We strive to ensure that each project we undertake has social value, is environmentally responsible, is economically successful and has design integrity.
We believe in quality. This means creating quality designs for our clients by investing in quality people. We have been fortunate in attracting some of the most talented architects, planners and urban designers who regularly create award-winning work. We’re proud to say that many of our projects are regularly cited as examples of best practice in publications by government and professional bodies.
We prepared national guidance on urban design for the Homes and Communities Agency. Urban Design Compendium 2 has now been published in 120 countries and translated into five languages to date and is accompanied by a website of best practice studies which we continue to research and update. Our projects cover spatial planning policy studies and move down through the scales of masterplanning to town centres, architecture and the public realm. At each of these scales, they are underpinned by an understanding of delivery mechanisms, appropriate research, and engagement with local communities.
Amongst our awards are four CABE Building for Life Gold Standards, Building for Life Awards and Winner of the RTPI Planning for New Neighbourhoods for our exemplar masterplanning project at Newhall, Harlow.
We are proud to have delivered successful schemes for more than 135 clients in the public and private sectors.
